Scoring...
1. Never touch the target face until scoring is completed.

2. Never touch your arrows. To call your score point at the nock end of each arrow and call its value clearly. Arrows scores should be called in groups of three working from the highest values to the lowest (10,10,8 pause 7,7,1).

3. If an arrow is touching one of the dividing lines on the target it will score the higher value, it is for this reason it's important not to touch the arrows or the target face. In the case of a line cutter being disputed, a decision should be given by the Target Captain, if that is not accepted then a judge should be called to give a final decision.

4. Do not look for arrows behind the target until all the arrows in the target have been scored.

What to expect...
To start off, aim to arrive an hour earlier than the event starts. This will allow you to get used to the place / enviroment, have ample time to setup your equipment and help relax those nerves.

Register on arrival and find out your target number/designation if you don't know already.

First thing to do is introduce yourself to all the other archers shooting on the same target as you, if you are new they will gladly help you along.

Most shoots operate a A B C D system - two archers A and B, will shoot in the first, then C and D in the next. After the first end it all swaps, so C and D go first.

If shooting a Portsmouth or Fita 18/25m round expect to be there for at least 3-4 hours, maybe a bit more if watching the prize giving, so find a seat, sit down as much as possible between ends it will help to conserve some energy. Same goes for outdoor shoots, in fact even more so.

Takes some food & snacks to chomp on between ends. It is better to eat small amounts all day during the shoot than to stop and have a large lunch. Otherwise you may find you become some what lethargic if you eat large amounts at lunchtime, eat little and often all day.

What to take...
1. Your bow and your arrows
2. Tent or BIG umbrella to protect you from either the sun
or the rain
3. Sun cream
4. Plenty of fluids
5. A seat
6. Your GNAS card
7. Waterproofs
8. Spare string for your bow
9. Some tools to tighten up limb bolts etc.
10. Some food
11. Pen for scoring
